Why FONS?

We are very fortunate at our school to have FONS which is and has been such an integral part of the school community for many years. Thousands of pounds have been raised, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children's education and the facilities in school.

Our FONS is about much more than just fundraising though. It also supports closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents, carers and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. It is fun too - as we are sure you will find out if you join us at one of the varied events throughout the school year.

You and anyone you know can get involved in a variety of ways if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available.

Our Role

Our FONS committee consists of a number of elected members, made up of parents and friends of school, of which 4 Officers hold the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The members of the committee do everything on a voluntary basis for the benefit of every child in the school.

The committee meet on a regular basis usually once per half term increasing to twice sometimes, depending on whether we have a major event planned. If you are interested in joining us, please speak to any member of the committee, or email your details to us (at either FONS or the school office) or simply turn up at any of our meetings that are advertised in the school newsletter.

Money Raised

The decisions on how to spend the money we raise are taken at the FONS Committee Meetings.

Mrs Parker, our Head Teacher, has a shopping list of items that the school would like to purchase. Often this will be resources to improve a particular area of the curriculum or school environment.

In the main the FONS funds are for the extras that unfortunately cannot be provided by the school budget; items that make our childrenís learning & social experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting.

How you can get involved

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the FONS. Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable it really is a case of ìmany hands make light workî. It doesnít matter if you canít help on a regular basis, or even if you canít come into school. There are always small jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare (e.g. wrapping gifts, cooking fairy cakes etc.). We really couldnít achieve what we do without the behind the scenes help that exists throughout the school.

You can, if you feel able, volunteer to be a Committee Member or you can simply support the AGM and give us your ideas for fundraising events. The AGM is also the time to ask questions or voice your opinion. You can help by letting us know if you have any useful contacts or skills - we are always grateful for new ideas or openings which may boost our funds!

Thank you for taking the time to read about FONS. We hope you now know a little more about your Friends Association. On behalf of all the children we would like to thank you in advance for your very valuable support which enriches their learning experiences and helps makes their time in school so enjoyable.
