Welcome From The Vice Chair

Ian Barnard, Vice Chair of Governors

Governors are appointed to ensure that objectives are met and that planning for the future is specific, monitored, visionary and realistic.

We are here to support and encourage the Head teacher along with her Senior Leadership Team and all school personnel so that children have access to an enriched education.

The governing body will work diligently to meet its core functions which are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Our Governing Body Constitution allows for nine Governors. We also welcome Associate Members to our Governing Body; people with specific expertise who wish to contribute. We currently have one Associate Member.

Our Full Governing Body meets twice a school term where a wide range of matters are discussed and important decisions are made.

Our School Improvement Committee meets termly to consider and advise the Governing Body on standards and other matters relating to the school’s leadership and management, achievement, teaching and learning, behaviours and curriculum.

Some Governors hold specific responsibilities as a Lead Governor and will attend meetings and undertake monitoring visits to the school to fulfil obligations.

The school values the presence of parents on the Governing Body as parents have a unique insight to bring to the role of governor.

As governors we support and monitor many issues regarding the school, including finance, pupil attainment, safety and welfare, staff development and the appointment of the very best calibre of teacher, support and associate staff. We also approve a wide range of policies, monitor the maintenance of the buildings and grounds maintenance and health and safety provision.

Our priority is to ensure that every child is receiving the best support and encouragement in order to achieve their very best both as a learner and as an individual by asking searching questions.

I can be contacted through the school should you wish to discuss any matter further.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year. With very best wishes to you from

Ian Barnard, Vice Chair of Governors.
