For many Year 6 pupils, the eagerly awaited residential visit at the coast began today.
We are still calling it East Barnby, even though the venue is a little further South, on the eastern edge of Dalby Forest. This is because the accommodation and activities are still run by the experienced and enthusiastic people of the North Yorkshire Outdoor Education Service, who are normally based at East Barnby. As expected, they have made us all very welcome at Birch Hall, our base for the week.
After a quick tour of the site we sorted out equipment and dashed off to our first activities. Beach combing and fun at Boggle Hole or body boarding on Cayton sands. Whilst the weather didn't provide us with any monster waves, at least the sun came out. It was still awesome fun to lark about in the sea, jumping off boards and splashing about. Our wetsuits kept us warm enough to stay in for hours.
Back at Birch Hall, it was soon time for tea, a choice between pasta bolognaise or barbeque chicken, with sides of garlic bread, sweetcorn and wraps. Pudding was a chocolate sponge with icing and cream.
After tea, we had a little free time (tuck shop, chat, gymnastics on the grass, etc.) and then dashed around the grounds looking for aliens! The pesky midges eventually drove us inside for hot chocolate and thence to bed.
