EYFS Curriculum

By understanding the importance of observing children as they play and learn, staff at Norton are able to ensure there is an appropriate level of challenge and support. This enables children to build on prior learning, revisit and extend learning experiences in order to make progress.

We value the importance of having a balance between adult led learning activities and child initiated free play. During adult led activities we promote the use of practical and visual resources and learning experiences to engage the children. During free play children are encouraged to be independent, motivated and confident learners.

From our pets at home, to jungle animals; in this half term we will learn about lots of different animals!

We hope the children develop a fascination and respect for the Natural World around us.

Our Curriculum Goals outline our vision for what children should achieve for each Area of Learning. They also show the progression we hope children will make during their time in Norton’s EYFS.

At Norton, staff have developed exciting ‘Big Picture’ Goals to include a holistic and cross-curricular view on skills children will learn at Norton.

We feel it is important that our learning environment supports, challenges and excites children so that they are making progress through both adult and child initiated play.
