East Barnby 2024

Thursday, 6th June 2024

Another glorious morning, and another feast of a breakfast, greeted us on our penultimate day.

All the children were in high spirits and ready to attack today’s activities: a full days climbing the towering rocks at Scugdale…

…or a morning scrambling and weaseling along the riverbanks of the river Esk…

…followed by an afternoon mountain biking along the stunning coastline from Kettleness with the view of tomorrow’s destination in the background; Runswick bay.

Everyone is excited for tonight’s activities: the Norton CP talent show followed by the East Barnby disco!

Wednesday, 5th June

This morning, some very sleepy heads were greeted with beautiful blue skies and a fresh breeze to help wake them up. The children enjoyed another cooked breakfast which gave them the fuel they would need.

Some had a full day canoeing down the river Esk, from Ruswarp to Whitby Harbour.

The others split their day between cycling…

…and beck scrambling along the wet and rocky bed of a tributary of the Esk.

Everyone seemed to have a thoroughly enjoyable day and are looking forward to their evening activities of sledging or the Mini-Olympics, which ever they didn’t attend yesterday evening.

It is half way through the week and everyone seems fully in the swing of enjoying the East Barnby Way of Life.

Tuesday, 4th June

A change of fortunes with the weather today as the sunshine was replaced with showers and gusts of wind.

However, after a hearty East Barnby breakfast and a full armour of waterproofs the groups were ready to go for either a full day’s canoeing, from Ruswarp to Whitby, or rock climbing at Scugdale.

The children all had a fantastic day and embraced the great British weather! Sledging and a Mini-Olympics course tonight for the children, before supper and an early bedtime (some tired faces this evening!).

Monday, 3rd June

We arrived at East Barnby, just before 11 O’clock, to glorious sunshine and a warm welcome from the East Barnby staff. After making beds, gathering our waterproofs and having a tour of the site, it was time for lunch.

After lunch, we got our wetsuits on and hit the beach for an afternoon of surfing. Everyone had a great time in the sea and enjoyed catching the waves.

An evening activity of orienteering around the site awaits us before super and then bed.
