At Norton C P School we believe that a love of reading is intrinsic to a child’s education, development and their well-being. Ensuring that all pupils become fluent readers is therefore at the heart of everything that we do.

As soon as pupils join us in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we immerse them in a language rich environment that promotes reading, writing and verbal communication.

Pupils continue to benefit from a rich and varied curriculum that promotes and celebrates reading, writing and the discussion of books. Our school approach to reading comprehension and the progression of skills is detailed in the Reading Progression section of the English Curriculum Map.
