EYFS were amazed when they found a real horse on the playground. They learned all about horses and were given the opportunity to ask questions to find out more.
In the afternoon, they were excited to welcome Charlotte from Go Racing Yorkshire as well as some other kind volunteers. The children were given a brief history of racing and horses in Malton and Norton before having a ride on an equiciser!
Key Stage 1 went on a trip to the castle gardens to see what evidence they could find of the castle. They enjoyed exploring the grounds and learning a bit more about the castle’s history. Most of the children were amazed to find out that a castle used to exist!
Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to welcome in visitors from Malton Museum who took them on a whistlestop tour of ‘Rivers, Roads and Railways’. Thank you so much to the volunteers at Malton Museum for taking the time to come in and for all of your help in the running of the day.
Year 5 and 6 focused on Georgian Malton. Mr Wigby from Norton College came in to share his expert knowledge on local history and the children loved taking part in his Horrible Histories-esque sessions. Thank you so much Mr Wigby!
On the afternoon, Year 5 went on a local walk exploring the town to look out for signs of its Georgian History. Thank you again to the staff at Malton Museum for generously providing the resources for this. Year 5 have written a longer article about their day.
Overall, it was an incredibly exciting and engaging day for both the children and staff. We wouldn’t have been able to do all of these wonderful activities if it wasn’t for the help of both the school and local community, so thank you SO much for everyone who was involved in some way. We were so lucky to have the support of so many people.
