KS2 took part in a parallel General Election on 4th of July. During PSHE lessons, in the days before, children learned about the Houses of Parliament and how adults in the United Kingdom vote to elect a Member of the House of Commons.
While adults were voting in polling stations around the local area, children at Grove Street and Langton road came to vote in our libraries.
Superbly run by volunteers from Y4 and Year 6, the polling stations ran smoothly throughout the day. Counting was completed just before the end of the school day and the result was announced in Good Work Assembly.
Here are the results:
Party | Candidate | Votes |
---|---|---|
Green | Richard McLane |
117 |
Labour | Lisa Banes | 83 |
Reform UK | Mark Robinson | 45 |
The Yorkshire Party | Luke Brownlee |
44 |
Liberal Democrat | Steve Mason | 29 |
Conservative | Kevin Hollinrake | 16 |
No candidate | 4 |
The result for Thirsk and Malton in the general election was quite different. See it reported here on the BBC website . Congratulations to Mr Hollinrake on holding his seat.
