Thursday

There are some quite tired children after our fourth day of action at East Barnby. Nevertheless, the majority got going quickly and eagerly this morning.

With ideal conditions for our activities and another hearty cooked breakfast inside, most of us started with body boarding at Sandsend. The afternoon varied, with the majority off up into the woods near Falling Foss for some shelter building. The remainder went beck scrambling.

The one group that hadn’t canoed to Whitby took to the river and had a great time paddling downstream to the harbour.

It was super nice to welcome an eagerly anticipated guest who joined for the afternoon and to stay overnight.

In the evening, the famous “Talent Show and Disco” took place. We had song, we had comedy, we had dance, we even had speed Rubik’s Cube solving - very impressive.

Body Boarding

The wind across the beach was strong, the safety flags snapping and cracking. As a consequence, the waves were pretty awesome and super strong. After a very chilly first dip, we tried body surfing and then got on the boards. It was exhilarating to time it right and rush towards the beach.

Beck Scrambling

The beck scrambling group showed proper Norton grit. They had to keep their wetsuits on from the morning, which felt unconfortable at first. In the end, they all agreed it was worth it because they were warmer in the water and got more goes on the crawls, water slides and jumps.

Looking Ahead to Friday

Right now, everyone is packing ready for our return after lunch. There’s one last activity in the morning; most are beach combing, the rest shelter building.

  • This is your East Barnby correspondent signing off for another year.

See you all tomorrow afternoon.
